PITTSFIELD, MASS. — Hands were in the air and money was on the table at Willis Henry’s annual Shaker sale on October 12 in Pittsfield, Mass. Headlining the Columbus Day event was a cherry and figured maple trestle table, nine feet in length and possibly from the Hancock, Mass., community. It exceeded high estimate to bring $84,000 including premium. Scholars were keen on manuscripts. A Pennsylvania collector acquired the sale’s cover lot, a spirit leaf gift message dated 1844 by Polly Ann Reed, for $15,000. An 1842 spiritual booklet presented to Eliza Sharp in 1842 made $38,400, underbid by Woodbury, Conn., dealer David Schorsch.
