ATLANTA, GA. — A pair of monumental Chinese cloisonne horses left their $4/6,000 estimate in the dust, coming to a halt with an online bidder at $49,600. The two, offered on the third day of Ahlers & Ogletree’s June 9-11 June Fine Estates & Collections sales, stood 63 inches tall, measured 75 inches in length, and were profusely decorated with enameled dragons and clouds, painted and bejeweled saddles, blankets and harnesses. They were one of more than 100 lots from the private Atlanta collection of Veronica Holmes, which were offered across all three days of sales. Not only was the result the highest price of the collection but they had the highest price of 1,215 lots offered during the sale. A more extensive recap of sale highlights will be featured in an upcoming issue.
