WINDSOR, CONN. — Albert Sack rated this sideboard “best” in his 1950 classic, Fine Points of Furniture. Apparently, the experts still agree. At Nadeau’s this past weekend, the swell-front Massachusetts cabinet handily exceeded its $30/40,000 estimate, selling to Colchester, Conn. dealer Arthur Liverant for $107,000, including premium.
Fifty lots later, an Orientalist painting of 1874, by American artist Edwin Lord Weeks, fetched $85,000. “We had 30 or 40 calls from Europe on this one,” noted auctioneer Edwin Nadeau.
