Tasha Tudor Books at Auction:
BETHESDA, MD. – Waverly Auctions, Inc. conducted sale 165 on September 14, which offered many books written and illustrated by Tasha Tudor and the results made Tudor fans sit up and take notice. Several contained original sketches and inscriptions.
Highlights of the auction included Pumpkin Moonshine by Tasha Tudor (1938), a first edition was Sylvie-Ann Wallace’s copy, Tasha Tudor’s niece, the subject of the book, and to whom it was inscribed and decorated with color drawings by the author. Included was an autograph letter signed and illustrated in color. Estimated at $1/1,5000, it sold for $16,500.
The Wind in the Willows, by Kenneth Grahame, illustrated by Tasha Tudor (1966), was a first edition with an original pencil and blue ink drawing of Mr. Rat. Signed and inscribed, estimated at $400 /600, it sold for $5,500.
Corgiville Fair by Tasha Tudor (1971), a first edition with original pen and ink drawing with gray wash, inscribed by Ned Hills, and early patron and artistic influence upon Tasha Tudor, was estimated at $500 /750 and sold for $5,250.
Becky’s Birthday by Tasha Tudor (1960), another first edition with an original watercolor drawing, signed and inscribed to Ned Hills, was estimated at $800 /1,200 and sold for $4,750.
