PHILADELPHIA — Material Culture’s March 14 Oriental Rugs from American Estates sale produced a winner in a large Persian Meshed carpet, 32 by 46 feet, that was custom made for the Union League Club in New York City at the turn of the Twentieth Century. The carpet sold for $33,750, including the buyer’s premium.
Purchased in the 1950s by Frank Michaelian, the Meshed carpet featured 189 knots per square inch and a total knot count of 40,932,000.
