The Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) antiques show, a late fall stalwart known for its elegant and diverse presentation, will not be conducted in 2011.
The show’s 38th annual edition took place November 26′8, 2010. In a letter sent to exhibitors earlier this year, the museum’s executive director and chief executive officer Dan L. Monroe stated, “The Peabody Essex Museum’s Antiques Show has been a major part of Thanksgiving weekend for the last 38 years. Several of the museum’s galleries were transformed into antiques show booths, hundreds of people visited the museum, purchased lovely things, and the Friday evening preview party was always a wonderful kickoff to the holiday season.
“Unfortunately, I am writing to let you know that PEM’s antiques show will not be held in 2011. We need to do some important and necessary work to the museum’s main power plant, which will involve some of the space in which the antiques show is staged, making it impossible for the show to happen in 2011.”
At press time, there were no details on whether the show will resume in 2012.
