DETROIT, MICH. — The top price in DuMouchelles’ The December Auctions, December 14-15, was a 48-inch-tall carved marble statue of Pocahontas, which was carved by Joseph Mozier (American, 1812-1870) and inscribed “J. Mozier Sc. Rome 1867.” Consigned to DuMouchelles from a collector in Dearborn, Mich., it sold to a collector in New York for $23,560, including premium, an improvement over its $5/8,000 estimate. The two-day sale offered nearly 1,100 lots and featured furniture and decorative arts, Asian arts, fine art, collectibles and jewelry. A more extensive sale recap will appear in a future issue.
