DOWNINGTOWN, PENN. — On May 17, Pook & Pook sold the collection of Barry D. Hogan of Lancaster, Penn., a grouping of nearly 400 lots of Pennsylvania folk art, early Americana and early American historical glass. Charting the highest price of the day at $30,000 was a Nineteenth Century poplar dome-lid box painted by the Compass Artist of Lancaster with red and white dotted pinwheel flowers on a blue-green ground. The catalog noted it related to a similar example the house sold on May 21, 2021, for nearly $12,000, the high estimate of example in Hogan’s collection. A long time Pennsylvania collector had the winning bid. Prices quoted include the buyer’s premium as reported by the auction house; a more extensive sale recap will appear in an upcoming issue.
