Rare Lois Whitcomb Rhead Pâte-sur-pâte Framed Plaque

1920-22, impressed artist’s monogram, applied paper exhibition label, “National Association of Women Painter and Sculptors, New York City, 1923” impressed monogram, 4 inches diameter (Provenance – The Collection of Richard Harry Rhead-Cronin) This work was exhibited at the 33rd annual exhibition of Women Painters and Sculptors. Also marked on the paper label are the agents, W.S. Bud-worth & Sons were packers and movers of works of art, specializing exhibitions. The address for Lois Whitcomb Rhead (born Chicago, 1892) is given as Zanesville, Ohio, which is where she lived with her husband, Frederick Hurten Rhead, with whom she also collaborated, and who was Director of Research and Designer for the American Encaustic Tiling Company, from 1917 through to 1927. Lois died in 1994 aged 104.
