M. Finkel & Daughter
Kate Clayton Donaldson- Price Upon Request
A rare and exceptional example of outsider art, this was made circa 1930 by Kate Clayton Donaldson (1864-1960). She was known as “Granny” Donaldson and is highly regarded for the appliqued and embellished "cow blankets" that she created. She crocheted various animals, birds and people which she then applied to large pieces of homespun wool fabric. These were apparently draped over cows for parades in her hometown of Marble, in the Appalachian region of North Carolina. Each is a strong, slightly abstracted and whimsical composition of rural life in a wonderful palette.
