Anonymous Italian School (possibly Genoa), "Portrait of a Lady as Saint Catherine of Alexandria", 1650 or later, oil on canvas depicting dark-haired woman seated in curtained alcove, subject bears saintly attributes including crown, palm frond in right hand, and fragment of spiked wheel in lap of purple gown, no visible signature, inscribed "No. 8" in black cursive and erroneously labeled "St. Margaret" in upper half verso, overall craquelure, scattered rough areas of paint loss, several repaired areas (V-shaped tear above and to the left of sitter's head, under left hand, and at left forearm sleeve) visible recto, bottom two tears and small patch corresponding to tear in sitter's bosom visible verso, black lighting reveals isolated minor in-painting with a heavier concentration around wheel rim, gilt frame with scattered flaking, not examined out of frame, ss: 28 ½" h. x 22" w.
