Pair of 1825 Bunker Hill Monument Ribbons- Price Upon Request
Pair of 1825 Bunker Hill Monument Ribbons presented to veterans of the American Revolution. These belonged to Lemuel Coffin of Newburyport. Written on the backside of the frame is the following inscription: “Badges of Lemuel Coffin of Newburyport-one of Gen. Washington’s Life Guards. Donated by Mrs. Heyde.” We believe these ribbons were worn at the laying of the Bunker Hill Monument cornerstone ceremony attended by Gen. Lafayette and other Revolutionary War Veterans. Given that Coffin died in 1837, these pre-date the Monument’s 1843 dedication ceremony. Coffin was a veteran of Lexington and Concord, and he served in the Continental Army from 1777 - 1779. Housed in their period frame (6.75” x 5.5”). We could find no other record of this pair of ribbons, let alone ones having an important provenance.
