The ceramics of Iznik were among the finest works of art produced in the Ottoman Empire. The technical quality of this pottery, the beauty and and immediacy of its designs have long made it one of the most popular art forms from the Islamic world. The Iznik ceramic industry was established and patronized by the Court of the Sultans, and its successive stylistic phases reflect major changes in Ottoman taste from the late 15th to the 17th century. Iznik quartz ceramics are the result of extremely difficult production methods which carried out successfully, are characterized by an extra white undercoating, very hard glaze and underglaze decorations. The colours are the reflections of precious stones and last forever without fading. They are all derived from metal oxides. The quartz pieces absorbs negative energy and reduces radiation in the places they are used. These high-quality ceramic wares, referred to as "çini" in Ottoman documents, were intended for the domestic market of the Ottoman Empire, but were also soon exported outside of the Empire, to Italy in particular, where the exported wares would give rise to local imitations. ?znik ceramics reached their heyday in the 16th century, and the masterpieces produced at that time are regarded as the most valuable specimens of the art of ceramics by the leading museums of the world like Metropolitan, British and Louvre Museum.
