Rare and Important Historic American Cake Board Depicting General Andrew Jackson- Price Upon Request
Rare and important historic American cake board depicting General Andrew Jackson as hero at the Battle of New Orleans, January 8, 1815. Attributed to John Conger of New York City, active from 1825 to 1845, this great object was probably made in connection with Jackson’s run for the Presidency in 1824 or 1828. The carving shows Jackson in a celebrated pose, in uniform, holding his hat and sword, with his horse and large American flag, encircled by a laurel wreath. “NEW ORLEANS JANY 8” is carved in a banner over his head. Carved from dense, Honduran mahogany, typical of Conger’s work. 10 ¼ x 12”. From an old collection. David Thompson Antiques & Art South Dennis, MA 802-238-6987
