PHILLIPSBURG, N.J. — Robert “Bob” J. Schenck, 76, of Phillipsburg died September 27 at Brakeley Park Center. Born in Piscataway, N.J., on October 12, 1939, Bob was the son of the late Robert P. and Sophie Earner Schenck.
A Dunellen High School graduate, Bob worked as a produce merchandiser for Twin County Grocers in Edison, N.J. A historic preservationist, he also worked as an antiques dealer. Along with his wife, Mary, they offered expertly curated pieces of Americana at shows along the Delaware Valley since the early 1970s.
Bob and his family had formerly resided in Locktown, N.J., where he was a member of the Locktown Grange #88 and the Locktown Stone Church. Bob and Mary resided in lower Warren County, N.J., from 2007 where they were members of the Pohatcong History and Heritage Society. Their restored 1820s stone house — brimming with antiques and Mary’s own folksy handmade hooked rugs — was often open for historic house tours. Antiques collectors, dealers and auctioneers will surely miss Bob’s infectious laugh, astute knowledge and beaming countenance.
Surviving him are his wife of 55 years, Mary Schenck; two children, Joe Schenck of Phillipsburg and Nadine Genrich of Morristown, N.J., and three grandchildren, Robert Schenck of Flemington, N.J., and Elyse and Owen Genrich, both of Morristown.
Funeral services were conducted on October 1 in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home in Flemington. Interment was private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pohatcong History & Heritage Society, Pohatcong Township NJ 08804 or Friends of the Locktown Stone Church, Inc, PO Box 264, Sergeantsville NJ 08557.
