Despite a passing swipe from Hurricane Irene, Thomaston Place Auction Galleries’ summer-ending auction August 27′8 went off as planned. The storm only took out the Internet for about two dozen lots and buyers packed into the gallery for the fine artworks and antiques that would cross the block.
The top lot of the sale was a monumental oil on canvas still life painting by Severin Roesen (Pennsylvania, 1815‱872) that was pictured on the back cover of the auction catalog. The depiction of a glass vase filled with spring flowers set atop of marble top table attained $57,500.
A complete report on the sale will appear in next week’s Antiques and The Arts Weekly. ⁁VV
