DOWNINGTOWN, PENN. – A rare Lancaster County, Penn., tall-case clock with works by Rudy Stoner led Pook & Pook’s October 3 Americana sale, surging past estimate to bring $192,000 including buyer’s premium. From a West Virginia estate, the signed, eight-day mechanism is housed in a cherry case dated 1762 and embellished with elaborate pewter inlays. “A great clockmaker, pewterer and cabinetmaker came together to make this dream piece,” said Ron Pook. The auctioneer knows of two related clocks, one on loan to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. In all, the 555-lot sale tallied $1,581,752.
