GREAT FALLS, MONT. — On March 20-21, Coeur d’Alene Art Auction and Coeur d’Alene Galleries presented the 39th annual March in Montana Auction & Dealer Show, which took place during the Western Art Week in Great Falls, Mont. The sale offered 718 lots across two days, and a watercolor by Charles M. Russell (1864-1926) sold during session two came away with top-lot status, far surpassing its $40/60,000 estimate to achieve $248,000 with premium. Titled “Scalp Hunters,” the work was dated “1906” and had provenance to Jack Stolz and Cynthia Bend, both of Afton, Minn. Additional highlights from both days of the sale will be featured in an upcoming issue.
