LAMBERTVILLE, N.J. – Rago presented a sale of silver and curios on May 26 featuring a selection from around the world, including Chinese, Continental, French and German works. Among the many highlights were tea and coffee services by Johan Rohde and S. Kirk & Son, flatware services by Tiffany & Co. and Puiforcat, as well as other heirloom pieces by Georg Jensen, Tétard Frères and others. The sale totaled $483,850, 97 percent sold by lot and 140 percent by value.
The highest price in the sale was $20,000, attained by a Samuel Kirk & Son seven-piece sterling silver tea and coffee service, Baltimore, circa 1892. The service, with a gross weight of 348 troy ounces, comprised a hot water urn, coffee pot, teapot, covered sugar bowl, cream jug, waste bowl and kettle-on-stand featuring floral repoussé decoration with heron, dragonfly, fish and Chinese figural finials. Marked to the underside of each example was “S. Kirk & Son 11 oz,” and each example had an engraved inscription to underside, “Elizabeth J.
