Auctioneer Joshua Eldred shows off the sand art bottle the morning of the sale as an expected top lot. It did not disappoint, selling later that day for $72,000.
EAST DENNIS, MASS. — A circa 1887 Andrew Clemens sand art bottle brought $72,000 on the final day of Eldred’s Americana, paintings, and maritime art auction July 29–31, going to a floor bidder after a spirited bidding war with another floor bidder.
Another top lot of the sale was Ralph Cahoon’s painting, “Balloon Ascent,” which took $45,000, also selling to a floor bidder.
A complete report on the auction will appear in a future edition.
