GRAY, ME. – On August 2, Cyr auctions sold a ship portrait of the five-masted Governor Ames from Waldoboro, Me. for $13,200.
Glazer told correspondent Bob Jackman, “I am really delighted to win it. It is a beautiful painting in fine original condition. It is on the original stretcher, and the pigment is undisturbed. The back of the canvas is absolutely untouched, and it has just a nice mellow color with no glue injections or other sorts of restorations. It has been wonderfully cared for.”
The oil on canvas was included in a sale containing only rdf_Descriptions consigned by dealers David Ramsay and Tom Joseph.
The auction totaled approximately $750,000. A full report will appear in next week’s Antiques and The Arts Weekly.
