The Ann Arbor Antiques Market will kick off its 39th season next month but without its show managers of nearly a decade, Woody and Nancy Straub, who took over managing the show in the late 1990s.
Under new management led by veteran show manager Doug Supinger, the show will continue as a mainstay in the antiques and select collectibles field with eight big tent shows spring through fall on the Washtenaw Farm Council grounds. This year’s show dates are April 14‱5, May 20, June 17, July 14‱5, August 19, September 15‱6, October 21 and November 4 with new times for all shows of 8 am to 4 pm.
In a written statement sent to Antiques And The Arts Weekly , the Straubs wrote they wish the market continued success and, “Thank the dealers and customers who supported the market while they were the management. The antiques business is our first concern as we are antiques dealers and understand the struggles of the business.”
No stranger to the trade, Supinger of Troy, Ohio, owns the Crutcher Antiques Show in Indianapolis, Ind., and has managed multiple shows in the area over the years.
His plans are to keep the show much the same but tweak it a bit to increase business and offer more support to dealers. Changes include a two-day event for the July show, moving up dealer set-up time to 7 am from 7:30 am and offering staff to assist dealers in their booth during food breaks or as an extra pair of eyes, he said.
The Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds are at 5055 Ann Arbor Saline Road. For information, 937-875-0808 or www.annarborantiquesmarket.com .
