EAST MORICHES, N.Y. — Selling for $21,000, an American country table, cataloged as Nineteenth Century, with single board top with bread board ends on a gray-painted base, was the top lot in South Bay Auctions’ May 24-25 sale of the Estate of Joseph “Jay” St Mark. A representative for the house said competition on the table came down to a heated back-and-forth between two phone bidders. Comprising exactly 502 lots of fine art, early Americana, folk art, silver, decoys and collectibles from the Newtown, Conn., historian, appraiser and collector of fine Americana, the sale was more than 99 percent sold by lot. Prices quoted include the buyer’s premium; a more extensive sale recap will appear in a future issue.
