The Connecticut State Police and Southbury Police Department are investigating the theft of a painting taken from the vestibule of the South Britain Congregational Church at 693 South Britain Road.
The oil on canvas, which was presented to the church in 1975 in honor of the 150th anniversary of the present church building, was discovered missing on September 23 and was probably taken sometime after the church’s Apple Festival on September 15.
The painting of the church, titled “Easter Morning,” was done by Lindy Ellenshaw and is approximately 30 by 24 inches in mostly muted shades of green. A plaque on the frame reads “Presented by Mr and Mrs Norman Collister / 150th Anniversary of the present church building.”
Anyone having information about this item is asked to contact the Southbury Police Department at 203-264-5912.
Editor’s note: The painting was recovered by Waterbury police November 2007. See related story at antiquesandthearts.com/Antiques/TradeTalk/2007-11-13__14-13-23.html
