A one-of-a-kind standing redhead drake by Elmer Crowell sold for an auction record price of $241,500 at Guyette, Schmidt & Deeter’s annual fall decoy auction that saw multiple auction records set. The November 9‱0 sale grossed more than $2 million.
Depicted in Brian Cullity’s The Ageless Songbird, the decoy flew over its $140/160,000 estimate. Hailing from the estate of Nathan and Anne Talbot of Sandwich, Mass., the full-bodied decoy is the only known of its type to exist and is in near mint original paint with an excellent patina.
A complete report on the sale will appear in an upcoming issue. ⁁VV
