– A rare Gustav Stickley bridal chest, circa 1901, was among the featured Arts and Crafts rdf_Descriptions offered at Fontaine’s this past Saturday, September 27.
The chest, which retained the original medium dark finish, had reportedly been recently picked from a home in Philadelphia. It attracted quite a bit of attention from collectors and the trade with bidding on the lot opening at $25,000 and bouncing back and forth between two bidders in the room until a phone bidder hit the lot with a single winning bid of $42,500.
With premium, the chest sold at $48,875.
Other top lots included a Roycroft magazine pedestal selling at $20,700, and a Gustav china cabinet at $20,125.
A complete review will appear in a future issue.
