HUDSON, N.Y.— A 20-by-28½-inch oil on canvas attributed to the School of Juan de Zurbarán (1620-1649) sold for over 172-times its high estimate when it brought $688,800 at Stair on October 21. The still life featured apples, a jug and bread and was unsigned. A Paul Rosenberg & Co label to the back identified it without attribution to “Zurbaran,” though it did not make the distinction between father, Francisco, and son, Juan. Both were talented still life artists in the school of Seville.
