BOSTON — On August 16, Grogan & Co dispersed a single-owner collection of Chinese export porcelains, silver and paintings. The collection had been assembled over a 40-year period and was unusual in that, in addition to export wares made for the American and British markets, it also included rare examples of armorial porcelains made for the Armenian, Portuguese, Dutch and other European markets. The highest price — $62,500 — was achieved by a rare tea bowl and saucer made for the American market, bearing the arms of the Society of The Cincinnati, a fraternal and hereditary organization comprised solely of officers who served in the Continental Army during the American Revolution. The sale achieved an overall total of $1,112,000, with all lots selling. Prices quoted include the buyer’s premium; a full report will follow.
