BRIDPORT, VT. — Tom Broughton came out of retirement to sell the New Haven, Vt., collection of the late Ralph Farnsworth, who had amassed a collection of Petroliana advertising signs, Edison photos, early telephones, milk bottles, Civil War tintypes and items from a variety of other categories. “We had a great crowd, the weather was perfect, and we had about 160 bidders.” He noted that Texaco signs did particularly well, notably a double-sided example that sold to a buyer he’d never previously sold to, for $4,510, including buyer’s premium. More highlights from this sale will be discussed in an upcoming issue.
