LONDON— Christie’s specialist Ivy Chan explores a Daoguang porcelain hat stand that was recently found being used as a lamp in a home in North Wales. The 200-year-old piece features elaborate glazing and bright decoration amid dragons and bats, suggesting it was made for an imperial member of the court. Although the provenance to its original owner is lost, Chan says, “it is likely to have been made for Emperor Daoguang himself.”
