DALLAS — A screen matched Hero “Red Leader” (Red One) X-wing starfighter filming miniature from Star Wars: Episode IV- A New Hope (1977) sold for $3.135 million in Heritage Auctions’ October 14-15 sale of the Greg Jein Collection. The miniature was distinguished by articulating servo-controlled wings and lights and is one of just four such examples made by Industrial Light & Magic. It was created by model concept artist Collin Cantwell and concept artist Ralph McQuarrie working off an initial basic design done by George Lucas himself. Greg Jein (1945-2022) was a visual effects artist who earned several Oscar and Emmy nominations for his work as a model and landscape miniatures maker. The 558-lot sale achieved an aggregate total of $13,611,406, all prices include buyer’s premium.
