MILFORD, CONN. – “Eyebrow Pencil,” a 1964 still life by California artist Wayne Thiebaud, was eye candy for bidders at Shannon’s fall sale of American and European art on October 29. The 6 1⁄4 by 7 3⁄8 work on paper attracted widespread interest and easily exceeded its high estimate to bring $420,000 including premium. “Femme, Oiseau, Etoiles (Woman, Bird, Stars,)” a compelling 1942 pencil, pastel, ink and watercolor on paper by Joan Miro, garnered $264,000. Consigned by a granddaughter of Vera G. List, a prominent collector of contemporary art, the two pieces contributed to a robust session at the New York-area auction house.
