THOMASTON, MAINE — Excitement is building for the sale at Thomaston Place Auction Galleries on August 29 and 30 that will feature a selection of fine art by top-drawer American artists, as well as a selection of marine antiques, folk art, jewelry and objets de vertu and antique furniture. Highlights include Jean-Baptiste Corot’s (French, 1796–1875) oil on canvas painting, “Le Chariot d’Arras,” a signed mid-Nineteenth Century work depicting a family in a hay cart drawn by four horses approaching the town of Arras, France ($200/300,000); an American federal period eagle figurehead carved in white pine with remnants of the original paint, circa 1810 ($25/35,000); and, among the many fine small luxury objects, a Faberge gold and pink guilloche enamel pen set with a cabochon moonstone at the top ($35/45,000). The auction will begin at 11 am on both sale days, and the gallery is open Friday, August 28, 9 am to 5 pm, and from 9 to 11 am on Saturday and Sunday before the sale.
