Titanic Costume Rises to the Top of 2,400 Lots Offered by RRAuction.com
BEDFORD, N.H. – The first sale of 2002 at RRAuction.com proved that the autograph market is still strong. Some 800 bidders competed for the more than 2,400 lots, with total hammer prices exceeding $400,000.
Kate Winslet’s Titanic costume was the top lot, selling for $23,430. This is the dress she wore during the final third of the film, including the sinking of the Titanic. It is a full-length purple and pink chiffon dress, with a pink chiffon tie around the waist and a floor-length pink wool coat, with three buttons to the top and black embroidered collar. The dress was accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Salvador Perez, Hollywood costume designer, who was the costume manufacturing foreman on the film.
Another highlight was a Marilyn Monroe signed photo that brought $13,900. A James Joyce handwritten letter sold for $11,245.
