BROOKLYN, N.Y. — SJ Auctioneers hosted its Winter Collectibles sale on January 29, with 225 lots of antique and vintage toys, silver, decorative arts and more. The online auction brought bidders both from the United States and the United Kingdom.
There was a tie for first place that would have made quite a cartoon short. A rare pocket watch with perennial favorite Popeye decorating its face and intimidating the numbers with his spinach-fed strength sold for $1,150. The watch was produced by New Haven and licensed King Syndicate, Inc, and were only produced circa 1934.
Also for $1,150 was a pair of sterling silver figural owl shakers from Tiffany & Co. These finely cast owls both retained their amber glass eyes and were in generally good condition. Other successful top lots included a signed Herend porcelain rabbit for $640 in a russet fishnet pattern, followed in price by a sterling silver set of a bottle opener and pair of corks for Perrier by Cartier for $510.
