Early American Nineteenth Century Portrait Painting of Twins
Twin girls in matching red dresses. Oil on board, housed in an antique gold leaf frame. This painting has been in the same Connecticut family since the early 1950s when it was purchased at an estate auction in Millerton, New York in Dutchess County. Research and comparison to known works has suggested this painting could be the work of Ammi Phillips (April 24, 1788 – July 11, 1865) who was very active in the area, having lived in the Dutchess County town of Rhinebeck, New York.
