George II Mahogany Writing Table
An important and rare mid-Eighteenth Century Chippendale period carved mahogany writing table after a design by Thomas Chippendale and attributed to Wright & Elwick. A rectangular top with moulded edge above a long frieze drawer applied with blind fret fitted out with compartments and a swivel pen compartment to the side above a recessed central door with a single fixed shelf behind and flanked by doors with blind fretted Gothic trellis and carved pilasters revealing two drawers each side retaining the original brass handles; on a gadrooned molded base terminating in waisted Gothic carved legs with pierced cabochon to front and sides. English, circa 1755.
