“This was my American dream sale. I’ve come close before, but this was the first time I broke a million on a single lot,” said Northeast Auction’s Ron Bourgeault, whose August 4-6 Americana sale tallied $11.7 million including premium and logged a handful of new records, including record price for single-owner sale at Northeast and record price paid at auction for weathervane. Dating to circa 1882, the locomotive weathervane fetched $1,216,000 including premium, surpassing the $1,080,000 paid for a Goddess of Liberty weathervane at Christie’s this past January. The buyer of the 61-inch-long sculpture was Yardley, Penn., dealer Todd Prickett, who also acquired six Gray Family portraits by Sturtevant Hamblin for $391,000. Both lots were from the Collection of Susan and Raymond Egan, which fetched $5,240,830 plus premium on August 5. A complete review of the auction will appear in a future issue. -LBB
