PASADENA, CALIF. — Treasureseeker Auctions’ Spring Into Treasures: Fine Art & Collectibles sale on April 16 delivered just that, showcasing almost 300 lots of fine art, decorative art, collectibles and jewelry. One of the most highly sought-after pieces in the auction was a Tiffany Studios Arabian lamp that sold for $7,200. The lamp included a green wavy Arabian shade and gold spotting, signed “L.C.T. Favrile,” that rested atop a signed bronze Tiffany base. Another highlight was the Clement Massier “Woman in Waves Bowl.” This circa 1900 piece featured showed colors and depicted a woman drifting on ocean waves, and achieved $4,200. More art glass lots included a Daum Nancy cameo glass and silver pitcher for $2,880 and a Maurice Bouval Art Nouveau cache pot at $2,700.
Cats were popular subjects in this sale. An antique cat painting by Jules Leroy (French, 1856-1921), signed by the artist and showing an adult cat and three kittens, sold for $3,520. Following this in the sale, a Nineteenth Century mechanical automaton and music box that featured five white cats having a tea party was in good working order, and sold for an undisclosed price.
Another noteworthy lot was a Japanese silver and enamel floral box that sold for $3,840. The box had enamel decoration on each panel and was a fine example of Japanese craftsmanship during the Meiji period (1868-1912). Also from this period was a Japanese silver and enamel vase that achieved $2,560. The vase had an ovoid body decorated with a continuous scene of a bird perched amongst blossoming branches of plums.
Other decorative arts categories were also represented. A Nineteenth Century malachite and bronze clock decorated with a cherub and rooster, as well as a 1920s Spanish wrought iron figural winged dragon lamp, both of which were bid to $3,300. A rare signed Carrig-Rohane frame from 1924, created by Boston artist frame maker Hermann Dudley Murphy, sold for the same price.
