The Westport Police Department is investigating the theft of two Louhan head sculptures that date back 900 to 1,000 years. The sculptures, which were reported stolen on August 16 at around noon, were from a private collection and were being stored at a location in Westport.
The sculptures are carved from sandstone, originated from China and date back to the Tang dynasty. They measure 15 by 10 by 15 inches and are valued at $800,000 each. These pieces are extremely rare and are of the few examples known to exist in the world.
The theft is being investigated by the Westport Police Detective Bureau and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
