NEW YORK CITY – Vance Jordan Fine Art Inc, is exhibiting the works by American painters from the first half of the Twentieth Century in a show entitled “Power and Whimsy: A Private Collection of American Modernism.” The show runs through June 5 and includes 38 works by prominent American modern artists thoughtfully assembled by one couple over two decades, primarily with the assistance of Vance Jordan.
The presentation and accompanying catalog include examples by George Ault, Milton Avery, Thomas Hart Benton, Oscar Bluemner, Charles Burchfield, Arthur B. Carles, Stuart Davis, Manierre Dawson and Charles Demuth.
Also featured are Preston Dickinson, Arthur Dove, Marsden Hartley, John Marin, Alfred Maurer, Georgia O’Keeffe and Morgan Russell.
Charles Sheeler, Joseph Stella, Florine Stettheimer, John Storrs, Max Weber and Grant Wood are also spotlighted.
Dr Lynn Marsden Atlass, curator of American and contemporary art at the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, Va. and author of the catalog essay writes, “Some paintings and works on paper have previously been loaned to museum retrospectives, but this presentation is the first opportunity for a larger public to view this fine collection.”
Following the exhibition at Vance Jordan Fine Art, 958 Madison Avenue, this collection will travel to the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, Va. From June 27 to September 27.
