Winterthur’s groundbreaking 2011 exhibition “Paint, Pattern & People: Furniture of Southeastern Pennsylvania, 1725‱850” set the stage for Northeast Auction’s sellout sale of Rick and Terry Ciccotelli’s collection of Pennsylvania folk art on August 4.
The single-owner session grossed $1,071,000 on 74 lots, producing a bid of $83,780 from Downingtown, Penn., dealer Philip Bradley for this Bucks County slide-lid box, attributed to John Drissell. It is the best preserved of the eight known slide-lid boxes attributed to Drissell. It is inscribed to W. Funck and dated 1795.
Total sales for the weekend reached roughly $2,975,000, including premium.
