LOS ANGELES, CALIF. — It took quite a bit of time and resources to cast a monumental bronze in the Eighteenth Century, as demonstrated by this video that timelines the process of Edme Bouchardon’s statue of Napoleon XV riding a horse. The work, created from 1748 to 1763, stood in the Place de la Concorde in Paris until the French Revolution when it was dismantled, meaning it survived less than 40 years. The video accompanies the exhibition “Bouchardon: Royal Artist of the Enlightenment,” at the J. Paul Getty Museum running through April 2.
