WISCASSET, MAINE – The Wiscasset Bay Gallery opens its 18th season on May 25 with a new show entitled, “Lubec, Mount Desert, Monhegan, and Inland: .”
The exhibition showcases oils, pastels, and watercolors by the gallery’s regionally and nationally known contemporary artists who paint throughout Maine.
Keith Oehmig’s “Sunday Morning, Monhegan,” a vibrant oil that captures the activity of island life in the spring, highlights the exhibition. Geer Morton’s acrylics, including many scenes of Lubec, express the dynamic colors of coastal Maine and Tom Higgins’ landscapes convey the ruggedness of inland mountains and ponds.
“New England Winter” by Charles Goodhue explores the abstract shapes of snow-covered barns while “Vermont Farm” by Janet Kilburn presents a rural farm nestled within a brightly lit mountainous landscape. The show also includes plein-air paintings by Michael Graves and his mentor, Bernard Corey (1914-2000).
“Morning Light, Monhegan” illustrates Guy Corriero’s fascination with the interactions between surf and shore that characterize the Maine coast while John Gable’s dramatic watercolor “Sentinels” depicts grand houses within an expansive natural setting imbued with late-afternoon light.
The idyllic watercolors of Lee Boynton and the fluid mixed-media works of Lisa Paige complement the delicate, transparent paintings of landscapes and florals by Carlton and Joan Plummer, respectively. Pastels by Lois Goldstone and watercolors by Tom McCobb and John Loughlin complete the show.
Hours are 10:30 am to 5 pm. For information, 207-882-7682 or www.wiscassetbaygallery.com
