PAWTUCKET, R.I. — Circa Auction Gallery, the newly formed auction company, had its first sale on Sunday, September 11. The top lot of the auction was a rare and fine Egyptian woman’s mummy’s head having delicate features and retaining virtually all of its skin surfaces, dentition and hair.
According to catalog notes, it was in a state of “superb preservation.” With provenance dating to 1877, it was estimated at $20/40,000 and drew much interest. Opening up with an online bid of $55,000, it quickly achieved its selling price of $138,000.
