Each year at the Winter Antiques Show preview, just held on Thursday evening, January 19, visitors crowd the aisles and repeatedly are overheard saying, “How do the dealers keep coming up with such wonderful and rare things?” Well, it is a good thing they do, for it keeps the show on the top rung of the antiques events in this country.
People with an interest in antiques come from all parts to New York City this time of year to take in a very full schedule of shows, auctions and special exhibits. And it is a safe bet that very few of them miss the Winter Antiques Show. Again this year, 74 dealers are at their best, and attendees seem to be loving it.
Fortunately, the show is open for ten days, closing on Sunday, January 29, thus giving shoppers more time to get back for a second and third look. And it seems that there is always a cab out front of the Park Avenue Armory dropping off a visitor or two, and a string of limos waiting in line for clients who are inside.
This week we offer a small look at the show. More will follow next week.
