MYSTIC, CONN. — With sunshine and good weather in the forecast for all three days of The WoodenBoat Show, Mystic Seaport is gearing up for the 25th anniversary of this popular event June 24–26.
The show is in partnership with WoodenBoat Publications, and will feature a choice selection of in-water exhibits, tents full of marine vendors, a collection of self-built boats to showcase on the village green, informative talks and demonstrations, and, of course, the opportunity to enjoy finely made wooden boats. Show hours are 9 to 5 daily.
A featured guest to this year’s show is Hokule‘a, a Polynesian voyaging canoe from Hawaii. The 62-foot catamaran is in the midst of a multi-year circumnavigation of the globe to raise awareness of Polynesian maritime culture and ocean conservation. The vessel will be open for visitors to board during designated periods throughout the show and crew members will be available to answer questions and discuss their voyage.
Hokule‘a was scheduled to arrive in the morning Thursday, June 23, and she will be welcomed with a traditional ceremony, incorporating her Hawaiian crew and members of the local Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.
Mystic Seaport is at 75 Greenmanville Avenue. For more information www.mysticseaport.org, 860-572-0711 or toll-free at 888-973-2767.
