One of the rarest of the rare 35 mm cameras of the world, the Leica 250 GG with motor, was sold on April 24 at Auction Team Breker for $130,000, setting a new world record price.
Only 92 of the motor-driven Leica 250 GGs were ever built. All of the cameras were sold in 1942 to the German air force for installation in aircraft serving aerial surveillance.
Today, there are only a very few examples known worldwide, as most of them were shot down with the aircraft or destroyed during World War II.
A complete review of the 966-lot speciality auction of photographica and film will appear in a future issue.
