On the original plinth, with later brass presentation plaque inscribed “To the National Association of Tobacco Distributors from the Cigar Institute of America, 1959”. Height 76″, Width 19.5″ square at base.

Fine English Regency Tortoiseshell Tea Caddy
English, early Nineteenth Century. An excellent sarcophagus form tea caddy, with tortoiseshell veneer panels between inlaid banding, with brass mounted paw feet and lion’s heads handles to either side. The hinged lid opens to reveal two fitted, lidded tortoiseshell compartments, each with original leaded interior, flanking a central cut glass cup. Lined in rose velvet. Apparently unmarked.

Central Asia, Sassanian (or Sasanian), Fifth to Sixth Century CE. Silver handle in the form of a feline. Tongue extended, floral decorations along the length of the handle, raised florettes as the mane, braided harness around the head. Remains of iron blade inside.
