HATFIELD, PENN. – During Alderfer’s cataloged winter auction, December 12, a selection of historical documents, photographs, books and artifacts linked to the Mead family attracted a great deal of interest.
Highlighting the 218 lot collection was a rare vellum commission from the US Army issued to George G. Mead for the rank of brigadier general signed by Abraham Lincoln as President and Edwin Stanton as secretary of war.
The document, dated March 3, 1864, sold to an internet bidder at $47,000, including premium.
